The Concord Middle School Choral Program is dedicated to encouraging growth in young musicians and performers. Choral music is an art that can be so fulfilling and unique and I look forward to sharing that art with these students.
Adolescence can be a particularly challenging time for kids to sing, both physically and emotionally. For many children, singing with their changing voices is like learning a completely new instrument. It can be particularly hard because they can’t see their voices. As their legs grow longer, they see that with each step they move a bit further than they used to. When they speak or sing, they can tell right away that something is different, but it can be very challenging for them to figure out exactly what has changed.
I encourage students who are struggling to find time to get some extra practice outside of class. Sometimes these students are great singers, but believe that they can’t sing at all because they are having trouble adjusting to their new voices. Often these students are fabulous singers, who just need some practice to build their self-confidence.
I also encourage students to approach me if they feel they need any extra help with chorus parts. I am more then happy to expand on what we’ve covered in class in a more relaxed setting away from the anxiety that might occur in class.
Feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
